[Pro] Link Preview in Facebook

NOT a PRO, don’t write code or know it, looking for “simple” cure.

Facebook used to post a preview image of my web pages when I’d post a link, no longer. They now require a title meta tag - done, a description meta tag - done, and this code <link rel=”image_src” href=”thumbnail_image” / > that links to a thumbnail.

Called Freeway, they suggested trying html markup, but Facebooks “strips” markup.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Rich

What Softpress means is that you should use the Page / HTML Markup dialog to add this tag to your page, and publish that page to the Web. Figure out what the URL is to your thumbnail image, and then open Page / HTML Markup. Use the picker at the bottom left of the dialog to change to the Before /HEAD section, and add your code there. It will probably look something like:

<link rel="image_src" href="http://yoursite.com/Resources/yourthumbnail.jpeg " />

That way it becomes a part of your site, browsers will ignore it, and Facebook will read it and do something with it.

Can you post a link to your problem page and we can have a look - if you use the format http://www.yoursite.com/yourpage.html - it will be a clickable link or just copy/paste the link from your browsers address bar

I am still tweaking it, before I take the plunge of uploading it.. Should I upload it first, and then tweak??

It’s now 10 years later and still no solution on how to add content INSIDE the HTML or HEAD tags using Freeway Pro 7.

FaceBook today in 2020 uses Open Graph which requires this:

<html prefix="og: <http://ogp.me/ns#">>

HTML Markup doesn’t allow us to do that. We need to add that “prefix” INSIDE the HTML or HEAD tags.

Believe me, I’ve tried the Action “solutions” to no avail…

Tim’s “Meta Plus” Action is ancient and still references Flash! https://www.actionsforge.com/actions/meta-plus

Ian’s “Facebook Open Graph Meta Tags” Action adds the meta tags but then doesn’t change the HTML or HEAD tags as required! What the…! https://www.actionsforge.com/actions/facebook-open-graph-meta-tags

How in THE world do we edit the HTML or HEAD tags in Freeway Pro 7?
